I’m a total sucker for a good book. Here are my favorite books from 2013!
I gave them all 5 STARS except for Gone Girl. Gone Girl earned 4 STARS with me because it was the most screwed up book I’ve ever read. BUT it still made it into my favorites list because it’s the best mystery I’ve ever read. Read it- there’s no other way to describe it. These 9 books were all rated almost 5 stars overall on Good Reads. Add me on Good Reads (Katie Surly) for more book recommendations. If you aren’t on Good Reads, it is also a free app but it’s easier to search for people online.
I so wish I had more free time to read, but so far I’ve read 30 books in 2013. My goal in my 26 before 26 post was 50 books by April 2014 so I still have a lot of reading to do! As I look back through the books from this year, I realized I branched out a little bit in genres to memoirs.
Three of these books are memoirs… a new genre for me and I LOVED them. (Glass Castle, Half Broke Horses, and Left to Tell)
Three of these books are historical fiction set in my favorite time period to read about: World War II. (The Book Thief, Code Name Verity, The Storyteller) I’ve never been a Jodi Picoult fan, but the Storyteller is so different than her norm!
“Out of My Mind” by Sharon Draper is a young adult chapter book but I would recommend it for everyone.
Have you read any of these picks? PLEASE comment any 2014 recommendations you have!
I haven’t read Out of My Mind yet but all of 5th grade read it and loved it so I guess I need to read it also. I liked Gone Girl but yeah it was twisted. I haven’t read The Storyteller yet because I’m worried it is going to be too sad. I love all her other stuff.
Hey Ashley! Try Storyteller- it wasn’t as sad as some of her other books and I learned a lot from the historical side of things!
I guess I need to add Gone Girl to my list just to see what all the fuss is about :)
