Are you ready for this!? I’m partnering with Northwest Arkansas Mall to give away $200 in gift cards! Northwest Arkansas Mall provided me with $200 for back to school shopping and $200 to give away to one lucky reader. At the end of this post, go follow them on social media and give them some love! They were looking for a teacher’s perspective for back to school shopping. I teach 2nd grade in Bentonville at Central Park and absolutely love my job.
Right now I’m listening to Ron Clark’s new book, Move Your Bus, on audio. It is SO good (and not just for teachers, for any career)! In the book, he sets different levels of professionals based on work ethic and activity: walkers, joggers, runners, riders. Chapter 10 is actually called WEAR YOUR GOOD CLOTHES.
Here are some great quotes from Chapter 10 that stuck out to me:
“You don’t want your work ethic to RUN, while your outfit RIDES.”
(Read the book and that will make sense!)
“Everything you do is always better when you have on sharp attire.”
“Our performance is never dressed down.”
I’ll get to the shopping part, but here’s the plug for his book. Go check it out!
First, I asked you guys on Facebook and Instagram where you do your back to school shopping and what you look for. A unanimous response was: comfy and clearance! Ha! Here are some comments I received: cute bigger dressy tanks to wear under a cardigan, long shirts and stretchy pants since we are on the floor with kids a lot, Target, great sales at Dillard’s, cardigans and layers. This gave me an idea of what to look for!
We started at GAP. I paired a couple items together to show you some of GAP’s new fall items. One of my teacher friends tagged along to be my photographer so they’re not all selfies.
Guess what color I’m drawn to when shopping? Noticing as I make this post every outfit is black… sorry! This black jacket is super soft and comes in four colors. Find it here: Gap Tencel Jacket . For size reference, I’m wearing a Medium in the “true black” color. It looked good layered over everything I tried on.
Here’s a close-up so you can see the detail on the jacket.
This outfit is paired with the same black Slim Cropped Pants. I would dress it up with some jewelry, but for those of you looking for more of a simple casual look, this is for you.
Off to Dillard’s! We spent more time in Dillard’s because they are having a huge sale right now.
This first dress is Michael Kors. It comes in 6 colors and is 40% off right now. There were plenty of sizes and colors left the other day! I think it was marked down to $72. Yes, still expensive but it’s made of thick soft material so I can tell it would be a classic piece that would last. Find it here: Michael Kors Belted Shirt Dress For size reference, I’m wearing a Medium and it fit perfectly. (You can see the royal blue one in the background!)
This is the Gianni Bini Annie Jacket with the Emma Flare-Leg Pants. You can choose to unroll the sleeves so the design doesn’t show. The tank throws in a splash of color to brighten it up, but unfortunately I forgot to catch the brand name. Let me know if you find it online! Honestly, I don’t always go to this extent for work since I’m a primary teacher and often on recess duty. I do dress up, but I don’t want to be on the floor or jogging across the wood chips in expensive clothes or a suit. This is an ensemble from the “Work Essentials” section for those of you who may be in upper grades, administration, or even the business world.
(We were trying to have some fun- posing by yourself is really awkward.)
This kimono like vest was super cute! The store was closing at this point so I just threw it on over my slip to snap this. But you get the picture, right? Isn’t it cute? Find it here: Chelsea and Violet Quincy Kimono For size reference, this was a size small. It would even be cute over a tunic and leggings when it gets colder. When I said the store was closing, I meant it actually did close. A worker had to lift the gate to let us out… oops!
This was one of the most fun blog posts I’ve done! Now it’s your chance at a shot at a back to school shopping spree! Enter with the widget below. One winner will win both gift cards: $100 to GAP and $100 to Dillard’s.
There are 3 ways to enter. And yes, I do verify entries so don’t try to be sneaky :)
